Not the Dracula I was expecting

My friend had just moved into her new apartment, and naturally, one of the first things I wanted to know was who the neighbours were. Then came the introduction: 'This is my neighbour, Dracula.' Dracula. I genuinely had to pause for a second. Of all the names you could hear when moving into a new apartment, that was definitely one I wasn't expecting.

For a brief moment, my imagination did most of the work. I was already picturing dark curtains, mysterious footsteps at midnight, and someone casually disappearing whenever the sun came up. 😂 But then I actually met him — and suddenly the whole thing became much less mysterious and much more interesting.

What made the meeting even more memorable was learning the story behind the name. Dracula wasn't some mysterious nickname or an attempt to become the next vampire legend. It was simply a real name, one that had been more common in the old days. Hearing that completely changed the way I looked at it. A name that sounds like it belongs in a horror movie turned out to have a much more ordinary history.

It was one of those unexpectedly epic little moments — meeting someone for the first time and realising how quickly a name can create a whole story in your head. Sometimes you expect Dracula and meet just... Dracula. No castle, no bats, no blood-sucking, just a neighbour with a fascinating name.
