The Beginning

The Beginning

I didn't know it was the beginning

When I started my first internship at a startup, I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself into. I was excited to finally experience the kind of work I had been learning about, but I also had no idea how quickly things could change once you were actually inside a startup.

Some days felt like I was trying to stop a fire. There was always something happening, something breaking, something new to figure out, and somehow I had to keep moving. The strange part was that sometimes I wasn't just trying to stop the fire — I was the one making it bigger.

It became a battle between my mind and time. I wanted to understand everything, build everything, and make everything work. But there wasn't always time to ask whether what we were building was actually necessary. I slowly started realising that being able to build something doesn't automatically make it worth building.

That period changed the way I looked at technology. I started thinking beyond just writing code. I became curious about the bigger picture — why we were building something, who it was for, whether it solved a real problem, and what could be done differently.

I learned a lot during that internship, but perhaps the biggest thing I learned was about myself. I realised I enjoyed taking an idea, playing around with it, figuring things out, and trying to turn it into something real. I didn't have a name for it then, but I was slowly discovering the part of me that wanted to build something of my own.

At the time, I thought it was just my first internship. Looking back now, it feels like much more. It was messy, exhausting, exciting, and sometimes completely confusing — but it was also the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey.

I just didn't know it was the beginning yet.
